Identified Flying Objects

Have you seen any IFO's at your feeders?  We want to know!  We would like to publish your sightings on our web site so you (and we) can compare what birds are showing up at our feeders at different times of the year.

Our year round visitors at the bird watching windows at Backyard Birds include:

  • black-capped chickadee
  • white-breasted nuthatch
  • tufted titmouse
  • house finch
  • hairy woodpecker
  • downy woodpecker
  • mourning dove
  • American goldfinch

Our late Summer visitors have been:

  • grey catbird
  • red-winged blackbird
  • rose-breasted grosebeak
  • northern mockingbird
  • song sparrow

What have you seen?  Keep us posted and we'll keep you posted.  There are lots of IFO's out there and we want to record your sighting.

If you have an IFO that you need help identifying e-mail us a simple description at birds@capital.net and we'll try to help you out.

Note size, color, unusual marking such as wing bars or specific color spots and also where it was sighted and any behaviors that might give us a clue.

Here is an example:  A bird larger than a robin, blue in color, white underparts, black "necklace" marking around neck, crest on head, eating sunflower seeds from a hopper style feeder.  Did you guess blue jay?
